Do you have an interest in aviation or simply want to study a subject that is diverse, fast paced, and ‘out-of-this-world”?
Aerospace Studies is a new subject offered to only 25 schools in Queensland. It is concerned with concepts related to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of aircraft and spacecraft; the safety management systems that have been developed to ensure the safe operation of the aviation and aerospace industries; the structures and management of aviation and aerospace businesses; and the various factors that affect day-to-day aviation operations. The course will combine elements of many disciplines, including Mathematics, Physics, English, Information Technologies, Business, Engineering, History, and Law, therefore a pass in English, (normal) Maths, and Science is desirable.
To reduce costs, the college will be using both fixed wing and helicopter simulators as well as running our own ‘virtual’ airline. As part of the course, students will conduct air crash investigations. Excursions and work placement are a major part of the course and students will be given the opportunity to work at Redcliffe Airport, as well as visit Brisbane Airport (airside, not landside!) and RAAF Base Amberley.
Areas of Study: There are 4 mandatory topics that will be covered during the course:
- Aeronautics and Astronautics
- Safety Management Systems
- The Business of aviation and aerospace, and
- Aviation Operations
The subject is offered on line 1; see Mr Banks for further information and Mr Jacob to register.
